BIPAC Celebrates 100th Donor & Nearly $10,000 Raised in the First 100 Hours
February 6, 2023
Westminster, Colorado – BIPAC, the newly formed PAC aimed at funding underrepresented candidates in office and created by Westminster Councilman Obi Ezeadi, celebrated 100 donors in the first 100 hours of operations and nearly $10,000 raised.
Just four days ago, Councilman Ezeadi announced the launch of BIPAC, a Political Action Committee (PAC) designed to provide resources for minority candidates in future elections across Colorado politics. The 100th donor news comes a day after the Colorado Democratic Party’s reorganization this past Saturday, at a time when the need for positive, diverse change in candidates is necessary now more than ever.
Donors have flooded in from all over the country to support the advancement of black and brown leadership in Colorado, The 100th donor was Texas resident Sarah Y., and she donated to BIPAC because, “as a big supporter for Obi, I watched from afar the inequities he had to deal with in his 2021 campaign; so I know that if his vision for social and political equity can be achieved via BIPAC, then all of Colorado and the country should get behind it to level that playing field.”
“Thank you to our local community for the rapid amount of support you’ve all had for BIPAC and what we stand for as an organization,” shares Councilman Ezeadi. “This PAC was created to provide the resources and safe space for minority candidates to thrive, and I am confident this is just the beginning of that success.”
BIPAC was created as a response to the fact that minority legislators hold roughly only a quarter of all one hundred seats in the Colorado State legislature, which falls below parity with their combined state population. Several key districts have never had a minority legislator, and the numbers across municipal and county offices are far worse. The candidate pool in Colorado primaries and general elections also fall far below parity with the population.
