Democrat Obi Ezeadi on a rapid trajectory of growth to secure Senate District 19 Spot

July 18, 2023, Westminster, Colorado – On July 17, 2023, Obi Ezeadi, the second Black city councilor in all of Westminster’s history, shared his first-quarter fundraising filing for his 2024 State Senate District 19 candidacy.

Ezeadi announced his run last month with a successful event and fun video at the Westminster Alamo Drafthouse movie theater. He has already raised $50,000, along with the backing of over 80 volunteers and over 290 unique donors, securing a strong head start ahead of the 2024 campaign season.

“It’s worth noting that 80% of the donations that have come in so far are individuals donating what they can to see a non-traditional candidate with a unique biography and outsider credentials give them an actual voice at the table,” shares Ezeadi. “I’m truly grateful for the outpouring of support we’ve seen so far and this early on in the campaign!”

As a current Westminster City Councilor, board member at several nonprofits, and entrepreneur with experience working in the State Senate District 19 office, Ezeadi is well-positioned to hit the ground running from Day 1 with collaborative solutions that cater to the needs of local SD19 residents.

“I’ve seen Obi nonstop really reaching out to folks, really listening to them and connecting with them in a way that gives people trust that they have someone on their side,” shares local Arvada resident and Labor President of CWA Local 7799, Jade Kelly.

Ezeadi’s campaign has already garnered numerous endorsements from elected officials across Colorado. His growing list of endorsers from the State Senate includes Senate President Pro Tem James Coleman, Senate Majority Caucus Chair Janet Buckner, State Senators Faith Winter, Jessie Danielson, Lisa Cutter, and Nick Hinrichsen. Other endorsers include Commissioner Andy Kerr, Representative Brianna Titone, and over 40 other Colorado lawmakers, community activists, and organizers.

“We need Obi to represent Arvada & Westminster in the State Senate because he is a pragmatic and inspirational community leader who leads from the heart and from his lived and professional experience. Obi will make us all proud,” shares Polly Baca, a former State Senator and trailblazer for women and the Latino community.

On City Council, Ezeadi has safeguarded public health through the approval of a new water treatment plant, achieved record road investments, revolutionized constituent outreach, revised laws to curb vehicle-related crimes, and tirelessly advocated for solutions to homelessness, food scarcity, and housing affordability. His state senate campaign focuses on pocketbook issues and education opportunities many SD19 residents are facing, and he hopes to foster a community where working families can thrive - not just survive.
