State Senate Candidate Obi Ezeadi Wins With a Sweeping 58% Majority at the Jefferson County Democratic Assembly

Democrat Obi Ezeadi secures nomination for SD19 (Arvada & Westminster) during the county-wide democratic assembly

April 5, 2024

Westminster, Colorado – On Saturday, March 30th, 2024, Obi Ezeadi, the second Black city councilor in Westminster’s 110-year history, emerged as the winner of the Jefferson County County Democratic Party Assembly for the hotly contested open seat currently held by Sen. Rachel Zenzinger.

Ezeadi secured the win with an overwhelming 58.4% majority for the State District 19 spot (SD19), meaning he is allotted 43 delegates at the upcoming multi-county assembly run by the Colorado Democratic party on April 10.

“I’m thankful to the community for believing in our shared vision for a brighter tomorrow. A future that truly reflects the best of who we are, the depth of our challenges, and the height of our aspirations. We know there is more work to do to win the Primary on June 25 and protect our district from those seeking to take our rights away in November’s General election,” shares Ezeadi.

Obi announced his run last June with a successful event at a local movie theater, rapidly raising over $50,000 in the first month of campaigning (with over 80% of donations coming from individuals). With the backing of over 140+ volunteers and over 1,000 individual donations, Obi’s campaign is heavily fueled by countless constituents who are ready to see a non-traditional kind of candidate representing them.

As a current Westminster City Councilor, board member at several nonprofits, and entrepreneur with experience working in the State Senate District 19 office, Ezeadi is well-positioned to secure the next step during the multi-county assembly next week.

Ezeadi’s priorities for SD19 revolve around creating a space where families not just survive but thrive with access to affordable housing, fully-funded public education, and a clean economy. He’s running on democracy in action, already showing the impact of people-powered progress.

“I'm running for State Senate with the unwavering belief that together, we can build a brighter future for my daughter, your children, and generations to come. We can challenge a system that takes necessities from the many to give luxuries to the few,” said Ezeadi. “I'm dedicated to preserving your personal freedom to read, learn, and love on your own terms.”

Ezeadi’s campaign to represent Arvada & Westminster has already garnered numerous endorsements from elected officials, unions, activists, and organizations across Colorado. Among these, the exclusive endorsement from House Majority Caucus Co-Chair Brianna Titone (D-Arvada) stands out as particularly significant, symbolizing influential support from a figure deeply connected in Arvada.
